Bienvenidos (you are now leaving)
The works in this series exist in a world where death is simply an overhead. The work employs pop culture imagery, cultural stereotypes, Narco style messaging, political propaganda, video, sound, sculpture and traditional portraiture. The series is laid out in the style of a Mexican courtyard with a fountain in the middle and images surrounding the perimeter. Large-scale drawings, found and reused objects, and videos of fractured visual and aural static create an immersive installation reflecting a world often ignored and rarely portrayed. The poor and abused appear in the guise of faceless hair-dos, flea-bitten dogs, and faces hardened by what their eyes have been forced to see.
